Living in Orangeville

Orangeville is an attractive town of nearly 27,000 people situated in farm country about 30 minutes drive northwest of Brampton. The population showed a growth of 6.6% from 2001 to 2006, which is high for rural Ontario, suggesting the town is becoming a bedroom community for the north GTA similar to Barrie. The town's population is younger than the provincial average and median household incomes are high and able to afford rents above $1,500 per month. Low residential mobility implies happy residents and a growing population means others feel the same way about living in the town.

Orangeville's unemployment rate is low and the town has several major employers, including Johnson Controls (car seats), Greening Donald (auto parts), Clorox (Glad garbage bags), and several high-tech manufacturing companies. The town has ten elementary and high schools and Humber College has a satellite campus on Alder Street in the east end of town. Orangeville has a local public transit system and enjoys GO Transit bus connections with Brampton (and the GO Train system). Orangeville is located about 40 km north of Brampton along Highway 10, which connects Mississauga, Brampton, Orangeville, and Owen Sound, and is 25 km northeast of Guelph and 55 km south of Collingwood. This is one of those towns which sits on a crossroads and residents can get to major urban areas without living in them.
